Jen Music AI

Ethical music generation in the era of AI

Creative DirectionBrandProduct Design

01Overview

Jen is an AI music generator trained entirely on licensed music, with over 40 fully licensed catalogues in its training set. It launched into a category where artists had good reason to distrust anything with AI attached to it. The work had to make integrity legible without making it worthy.

02Brand

A tactile brand world drawn from the history of audio engineering equipment: skeuomorphic detail that pushes against expected modern tech aesthetics, and photography art direction that stays grainy, organic, and in motion. The visual and verbal language keeps pulling back to the same point, that creativity is meant to be messy, loud, imperfect, and deeply human.

03Product

Jen works as a co-producer rather than a vending machine, so the interface had to support iteration. Users bring a melody or an idea, then generate, refine, and rework it.

We designed the interface and experience across alpha and beta, testing and adjusting against market research through both releases. We also produced instructional guides for in-studio sessions with LA producers, which put the product in front of the exact users whose scepticism mattered most.
